Document Management
3DExperience allows for documents to be attached to other content within the platform, making it a very powerful tool for engineering specifications or other document types.
In general, there are two types of documents - referential and specification. A reference or referential document is simply an attached document to give more information or show some sort of relationship between the document and the item it is attached to. There are also Specifications. These drive the content, which therefore requires a revision to the engineering content if the specification document is revised. These two must advance together.
Specifications should be used carefully, to be sure that it is not causing too much "churning" of the BOM if a small update needs to be made.
Uploading New Documents
The Document Management widget is a landing page for all documents that have been brought into 3DX. Whether this is through direct upload into Document Management, or uploading docs from someone's computer onto a Change Action or into a Bookmark, they will all appear in Document Management. Due to this, other organizing tools such as Bookmarks or Classifications should be used to organize these documents in such a way that is beneficial to the users.

Organizing Documents
As mentioned previously, all of the documents are practically dumped into the document management widget. Therefore, the Bookmark tool is an extrememly easy way to grab the "important" ones and put into Bookmarks for easy access. This could be done by a Document Manager to ensure that your corporate policy is followed for document management.
Using Drive to Display Live Documents
Think of 3DDrive as SharePoint or Google Drive. It is a place to create shared folders and add documents into it. The downside to this, is that the document can only exist in one folder (i.e. it is still "file based" instead of model based). Because of this, 3DDrive isn't recommended for your document management tool. However, although there are many shortcomings, there is a very cool functionality that has the potential to be added to your business.
A document can be saved in the 3DDrive, and continuously updated. The 3DDrive document can be displayed via 3DPlay and placed into a Dashboard where users will always see the latest and greatest information. This could be beneficial for documents like Program Reviews, or even a copy of the latest BOM for easy access, etc.
ADMIN: Updating the Naming and Revisioning, Adding Attributes
This requires Admin access / Platform Manager role. It is best to do these activities before a lot of documents are added into the system, to avoid any future issues.
