Basics of 3DExperience (Web Client)

About 3DExperience

3DExperience is a comprehensive business platform developed by Dassault Systèmes, designed to enable companies to innovate, collaborate, and manage their operations effectively. It integrates various solutions into a unified environment, providing a holistic view of a company’s activities, including design, engineering, manufacturing, and customer experiences.

Web Client vs Native Client

The 3DEXPERIENCE native client is a desktop-based application designed for resource-intensive tasks like 3D modeling, simulation, and product design. It offers full functionality, advanced tools (e.g., CATIA, SIMULIA), and high performance but requires local installation.

The web client is browser-based, focused on accessibility and collaboration. It’s ideal for reviewing designs, managing projects, and lightweight tasks, with no installation needed. However, it has limited functionality compared to the native client and depends entirely on internet access.

Key Difference: The native client is for power users needing advanced tools, while the web client suits managers and collaborators prioritizing simplicity and accessibility.

Web Client: Space vs Dashboard

Everything created in 3DX is saved to a database, and can be viewed many different ways. In the web, there are two major types of apps: Space and Dashboard.

  1. Space Apps

The older, original 3DX apps. These tend to have an older looking user interface.

  2. Dashboard Apps

The newer 3DX apps. Eventually the Space apps will be removed out and everything will be a dashboard widget. You can create your owm dashboard by dragging the dashboard widgets into tabs. This is further explained in the dashboard training page.

Using the Compass to Navigate Between Apps and Roles

3DExperience uses the compass (in the upper left hand corner) to store all of your apps related to the roles that are granted to your account.

If you do not have any content open, you can navigate between apps and land in their home page. If you have something open (such as a physical product or change action), the app will try to open up that content.

Dassault Systèmes Owned Resources

Dassault Systèmes has lots of free (and some paid) resources. One of the most beneficial ones is the User Community - where you can collaborate with other 3DX users and ask questions if you have having issues. You can also see what others have posted and what the responses were. Dassault Systèmes also maintains Wiki trees, which has lots of information about new release features and other helpful items.
